Mountain Bike Bill, Get the Dirt on the Dirt

Japan Overview

Since 2004 I have had the pleasure of occasionally working in Japan.  My longest stay was about nine months with the typical stay being about three to five weeks every couple of year or so. I am a fan of the culture and there is a wealth of countryside to explore .  I have quite a few pages for specific riding areas as well as numerous stories in the BLOG section of the this site. The links below are not all inclusive.

Yokosuka Area

I have spent the bulk of my time in Japan in the Yokosuka area located south of Yokohama and Toyko on the Muira Pennisula.  I still have friends there and have spent a lot of time in the woods here.

East County
Mount Fuji and the Hakone area

During my nine-month stay in 2004 I did some volunteer work with an Outdoor Recreation Center that afforded me the oppurtunity to get my MTB out on Mount Fuji.

Kamakura and Zushi

Riding around the trails of Zushi and the neighboring town of Kamakura definitely requires some good navigational skills.  What is really amazing is some of these trails are thousands of years old.  The history and temples are simply amazing.

East County
Yumihari, Akasaki & Ishidake Sasebo

Sasebo does not really have much of a MTB scene but there is plenty of hiking trails to get out on.  Most of them are not optimized for bikes which ups the skills requirements.  There is certainly a sense of adventure everytime I went out.

Eboshi near Sasebo

Eboshi is a mountain near town that is the longest climb to get to the top with a network of trails to play/explore on. Like most of the trails in the area, they are not optimized for bike use which make them much more sporty.
