{"id":991,"date":"2012-06-23T22:11:44","date_gmt":"2012-06-24T06:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=991"},"modified":"2012-06-23T22:13:04","modified_gmt":"2012-06-24T06:13:04","slug":"aliso-and-wood-canyons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=991","title":{"rendered":"Aliso and Wood Canyons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bill O&#8217;Neil and I met for a\u00a0cruise through\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/mountainbikebill.com\/AlisoCreek.htm\">Aliso and Wood Canyon Park<\/a>\u00a0in Laguna Hills of Orange County today.\u00a0\u00a0My last ride out here was\u00a0cut short due to a mechnical so today was really my first time seeing the majority of the trails in some number of years.\u00a0\u00a0 I found it amazingly depressing how bad some of the trails have been widened with go-arounds\u00a0that seemed to be\u00a0at nearly every minor obstacle.\u00a0\u00a0 The Cholla trail for example is just a complete mess compared to a handful of years ago.\u00a0 I wish people could just check their ego and\u00a0get off and walk the stuff they can&#8217;t ride instead of\u00a0making or taking the go-arounds.\u00a0\u00a0 (I know preaching to the choir here)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7a8cf2c38c89b497089515bd18b3ad9b.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7a8cf2c38c89b497089515bd18b3ad9b.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is a shot at the\u00a0top of the Rock-It trail.\u00a0Plenty of go-arounds here as well.\u00a0 This was\u00a0a mighty fun descent (following the original lines).\u00a0\u00a0 Once down Rock-It we worked our way over to Mathis.\u00a0 My memory of the steepness and length of this climb has been dulled over the years.\u00a0\u00a0 It was quite vividly refreshed today as it took quite a bit of gruntage to get my Intense UZZI up this climb.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3e2042b6b3fb3d087608a0e150fb4ffd.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3e2042b6b3fb3d087608a0e150fb4ffd.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once up to the top of Mathis we continued up along the ridge fireroad to &#8220;Top of the World&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 This was a\u00a0good place to take a breather and enjoy\u00a0the views of the Pacifc and Laguna Beach.\u00a0\u00a0 From here we went back down to Mathis and picked up the &#8220;Car Wreck&#8221; trail.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/76bee0c36c36c0bfc6f5b61e62bd4bae.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/76bee0c36c36c0bfc6f5b61e62bd4bae.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was my first time on this trail and it was quite a bit of fun.\u00a0\u00a0I managed to not get any pictures taken of the technical bits.\u00a0 The picture above is just after all of the technical bits along with the namesake remains of an old vehicle.\u00a0\u00a0This trail\u00a0feeds right into the Oak Grove Trail.\u00a0\u00a0 A pretty section of trail.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/d98b7a13b0ea02546c2db6e430f73ae9.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/d98b7a13b0ea02546c2db6e430f73ae9.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The next trail we hit up was the Dripping Cave trail.\u00a0\u00a0 There were some nice tree lined bits as well as some short grunt working climbing in the direction we were going.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/14769206a670a7f011178fc4eb9d8bd1.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/14769206a670a7f011178fc4eb9d8bd1.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We farted around a bit at the at actual dripping cave<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/ceef564d08db25db91c9253965cb5d13.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/ceef564d08db25db91c9253965cb5d13.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some of it was just downright\u00a0photo posing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It was right about this time\u00a0we thought we heard the sound of tiny bubbles trying to escape from finely crafted brown glass bottled far off in the distance.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We set out to investigate the sound and found the offending bubbles (in my truck).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ballast Point&#8217;s Sculpin IPA and Mission Brewing&#8217;s Dark Seas Russian Imperial Stout were tasty accompaniments to post-ride chit-chat.\u00a0\u00a0 Another NON-Bad day to be on a bike.<\/p>\n<!-- Begin Yuzo --><div class='yuzo_related_post style-1'  data-version='5.12.81'><!-- without result --><div class='yuzo_clearfixed yuzo__title yuzo__title'><h3>More Stuff Like This<\/h3><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t  <div class=\"relatedthumb \" style=\"width:165px;float:left;overflow:hidden;\">  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=577\"  >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <div class=\"yuzo-img-wrap \" style=\"width: 165px;height:130px;\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"yuzo-img\" style=\"background:url('http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/a48f75637661af7077ed07773c565c79.jpg') 50% 50% no-repeat;width: 165px;height:130px;margin-bottom: 5px;background-size: cover;
