{"id":5,"date":"2007-12-01T17:44:37","date_gmt":"2007-12-02T01:44:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=5"},"modified":"2010-05-26T06:27:29","modified_gmt":"2010-05-26T14:27:29","slug":"new-version-of-the-site-goes-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=5","title":{"rendered":"New Version of the Site Goes Live!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been working on a face-lift for the site for quite a few months now.\u00a0 Much of the work involved correcting\u00a0a bunch of poorly written code that was not up to current standards.\u00a0 The new version of the site is standards based and should be much easier to maintain.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Here are are a few of the new features of the site:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Better Setup for larger screens.<\/strong>\u00a0 While 1024 by 768 is the smallest screen resolution that will show the site as designed, the fixed menu areas combined with a fluid content area allows the site to &#8220;spreadout&#8221;\u00a0 better on the screen.\u00a0 I think you will find that a resolution of 1280 by 1024\u00a0 looks best.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Printer Friendly Pages<\/strong>.\u00a0 The old version was downright printer hositile.\u00a0 Not what I wanted at all.\u00a0 From disucssions with many of the site users, most people want to print out the pages and maps and take them with them on the trail.\u00a0\u00a0 The new version is print friendly and fits into that idea.\u00a0 When you print a page, all of the backgrounds, images, and menus will be scrubbed out.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Photo Gallery<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have picked through my site and compiled some of my favorites into gallery.\u00a0 Please wait for the page to\u00a0fully load as the script that runs the gallery will not function properly if the page has not completed loading.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>This Blog<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; I&#8217;m going to use this as my What&#8217;s New feature on the site as well as routine riding updates.\u00a0 This will not replace my trail review pages what so ever.\u00a0 For example I ride Daley Ranch quite often, but not updating that trail review every couple of weeks.\u00a0 Instead I might through up a quick not and a picture or two here talking about that particular day&#8217;s ride.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>Frequently Asked Questions<\/strong> page.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Getting the backend code up to standards is going to allow for some projects and future growth I thinking about for the site.\u00a0\u00a0 Most of these ideas involves database integration for GPS and trail information as well as user interactivity,\u00a0 blah blah blah, technobable, technobable, etc&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0What is up with Freaking Advertisements?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Yep I have stuck some ads on my site.\u00a0\u00a0 Call it an experiment if you will.\u00a0\u00a0 If the\u00a0advertisments\u00a0end up helping\u00a0defray the cost of running the site as well as maybe be keeping a few tasty microbrews in my cooler at the trailhead, then I&#8217;ll keep them.\u00a0 Otherwise I might pull them.\u00a0 Please let me know if you think they are\u00a0trashing your experience on the site.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are a few little things that I am still working on at this point.\u00a0 Most of them involve working around Internet Explorer&#8217;s less than excellent\u00a0support for web design standards.\u00a0 I recommened you\u00a0give Firefox a\u00a0shot as your browser.\u00a0\u00a0It\u00a0follows the &#8220;rules&#8221;
