the Kamakura Mountains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend I went out to revisit some of the Kamakura trails I have been on in 2004 and also check out some of the trails I had never ventured down before.\u00a0\u00a0 This area is really awesome and it offers a lot of great trails that range from mild buffness, to scary hairball rocks and roots.\u00a0\u00a0 Navigating around here can be real interesting.\u00a0 There are lots of trails optons and not all of them are well marked.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Even when marked, there is the whole\u00a0language barrier thingy for me to help keep things interesting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/710c9cc24afb045fe51a78c5b112b4ac.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" shortage of good trails.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/a37c9d32c27172ad320f35c7c23d7ad7.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" favorite things to do when riding out here is to stop by this mountain rest stop were you can grab a bit of local grub as well as a mid ride snack.\u00a0 It seems like you are out in the middle of nowhere until you come upon this place.\u00a0\u00a0 This group of hikers I had been leap frogging around for about and hour or so as I checked out most of the various splits in the main trails while they plodded along.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/a8dfde685f6cb12e47f96fbddd0532ac.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" Oden.\u00a0 It is mostly different types of Tofu, veggies and seaweed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" lunch I decided to check out a route that none of my friends had tried before.\u00a0 (Or at least not talked about)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The trail started near the mountain hut and went to the Kencho-Ji Temple in Kamakura.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_J-Kamakura-05JUL09-31.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3138ec01ed924b4a06cb536aa8837af0.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3138ec01ed924b4a06cb536aa8837af0.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0For being a trail to place considered peaceful and good, the trail was more like a guantlet of trail evilness.\u00a0 There were enough\u00a0roots, rocks and drops to get\u00a0most riders thier fill of technical playtime.\u00a0\u00a0This would be a good trail to come and session all the features on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/0eeb0ba6d47ddc32c7b3127091affbdb.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" tough riding and a fair amount of hike-a-biking I arrived to the mountain peak above the Kenchoji Temple.\u00a0\u00a0 What followed after this was a very long, narrow and steep set of twisting stairs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3f8bfd63f71ae0989c5bb5c6a81cc20f.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3f8bfd63f71ae0989c5bb5c6a81cc20f.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The stairs lead to the upper area of the temple known as the Hansobo which is the temples inner sanctuary. There are numerous and very impressive statue of creatures known as Karasu-tengu which roughly equates to Crow Goblins.\u00a0 They are considered part of the protective spirit of this place.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7daf7ba9c9e3ef827159c956c8a02a23.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7daf7ba9c9e3ef827159c956c8a02a23.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Kenchoji Temple ranks first among Kamakura&#8217;s so-called Five Great Zen Temples\u00a0and is the oldest Zen training monastery in Japan.\u00a0\u00a0 It was built in 1253.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/f18caff081381e2eea0b25403d3acde6.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/f18caff081381e2eea0b25403d3acde6.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The light was pretty crappy that day for taking pictures and I seemed to be having a &#8220;bad camera day&#8221; for some reason when it came to getting a good shot of the temple buildings.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There were lots of artists out working on thier craft and I soon figured out they had all the right viewpoints.\u00a0\u00a0 Thier paintings were much more interesting than any pictures that I was trying to get that day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/0b0e19d8390732d65ef082d4bc23537e.jpg?resize=695%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"695\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/0b0e19d8390732d65ef082d4bc23537e.jpg?resize=695%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After spending about an hour on the temple grounds I meandered my way through downtown Kamakura and back to the apartment.\u00a0\u00a0 It was good to get in some culture along with a nice chunk of riding as well.
