Tracking in Zushi, Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I arrived in Japan last Saturday for a handfull of weeks worth of work in Yokosuka.\u00a0\u00a0 The travel schedule to get here is a tough one as your internal clock is totally\u00a0thrown out of wack.\u00a0\u00a0 I spent most of the week just stuggling through the day and having a tough time sleeping at night.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It\u00a0took until Thursday for\u00a0my &#8220;body clock&#8221; to get adjusted.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Finally getting some rest\u00a0was a good thing as I was\u00a0looking forward to getting onto some single track this weekend.\u00a0 I shipped my\u00a06.6 here vice putting it on the plane so I would not have\u00a0lug the cumbersome\u00a0box on\u00a0the trains to get to\u00a0Yokosuka from the Tokyo airport.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Yoko09-HotelRoom-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/c67aa7b8e6f47ecc5e019456900ddcdc.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0My bike had not arrived\u00a0on Friday so\u00a0I rented a hardtail.\u00a0 One of my friends and his wife had just purchased a new home and invited me over to check it out.\u00a0 I declined on having them pick me up at my hotel.\u00a0 Instead I\u00a0opted to have a nice\u00a0cruise along the streets which I had nearly\u00a0forgotten what a cultural experience you can have along the streets of a foreign country.\u00a0\u00a0I had a\u00a0nice time\u00a0visiting and catching up\u00a0on things\u00a0with my friends.\u00a0\u00a0 Afterwards, I\u00a0had a really cool late night\u00a0cruise back to the hotel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" following morning it was time to get onto some dirt.\u00a0\u00a0 I had not been on the trails between Zushi and Kamakura since 2004 and I was looking forward to it.\u00a0 It takes a quite a bit of riding along the streets from Yokosuka to get to the trailhead, but like last night riding along the streets is an experience all to it&#8217;s own.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u00a0had barely started on my way when there was a bunch of of activity going on over the roses\u00a0at Verny Park.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/34f5983acc7bec8cddb544c5915a04da.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/34f5983acc7bec8cddb544c5915a04da.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It had been a long enough since I was last here that there were spots where I was unsure if I was going the right way or not.\u00a0 Every time I would start to get concerned about my route I would see something that would jog my memory.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I love riding when\u00a0you\u00a0are route finding or someplace new as your senses seem to elevate\u00a0just a little.\u00a0 While this route was more\u00a0about rediscovery, it was extremely fun just getting to the trailhead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/eb29edee35e2a23f6cadb53fff40a521.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" to the trailhead,\u00a0it was time to get some hike-a-bike on.\u00a0 Like many of the trails in this area, there are some steepness to be dealt with.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The opening trail up onto the ridgelines was every bit as steep as I had remembered.\u00a0\u00a0I did not count them but I&#8217;m guessing there are at least 100 wood log steps that got the calves burning in no time\u00a0flat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-33.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3f9b36fe55115e26557902692f5e69ff.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" href=\"http:\/\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-21.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once up onto the ridge the trails flowed and swooped gracefully through the trees.\u00a0 Most times there were fairly buff in nature but there were numerous section of\u00a0roots and rocks to test your skills.\u00a0 I rode here many times in 2004 and this ride was like catching up with an old friend.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-36.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/29b27f7a30a4cc949403ccee156e61ec.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I forget the Japanese name for this section of trail but\u00a0I believe it loosely translates to &#8220;Roots of Death&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-37.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/dcc9a5efba61222906d42c0e3a888c04.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" way this signs bridges the language barrier. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-33.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/Japan\/Yoko-2009\/normal_JA-Zushi-23MAY09-28.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" this is\u00a0one of my favorite sections of trail out here as it passes by one of the numerous temples in the area.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Nearby Kamakura is steeped in deep history and many of the trails are centuries old.\u00a0\u00a0I played on the trails here until I late in the afternoon and then enjoyed the street cruising\u00a0back to Yokosuka.\u00a0 I\u00a0finished the evening off with a tasty plate of curry from\u00a0a tiny mom-and-pop resturant that I was turned onto\u00a0during my last visit here.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It was not a bad day to have a bike \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<!-- Begin Yuzo
