{"id":24,"date":"2008-01-21T21:14:59","date_gmt":"2008-01-22T05:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=24"},"modified":"2010-10-09T12:43:17","modified_gmt":"2010-10-09T20:43:17","slug":"a-great-finish-to-a-3-day-weekend-daley-ranch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=24","title":{"rendered":"A great finish to a 3-day weekend &#8211; Daley Ranch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So my boys were pretty pumped up about the riding at La Costa on Saturday and they were itching to ride again.\u00a0 I had plans to take them to Lake Hodges or Penasquitos Canyon since that would be fairly kid friendly.\u00a0\u00a0 When I woke up this morning to see that it had rained the night before, I shelved both of those trails since they do not fair well after rains.\u00a0 We hung out around the house until almost 1PM catching one of the new releases on Pay-Per-View.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They were still itching to go so I offered up Daley Ranch which is one of the best places to ride in the county when it is wet out.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I warned them that there was a bunch of climbing to do at Daley. They were undaunted so we loaded up and headed to Escondido.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" imagescaler=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/3c344492700e8e6b752e0653956fe47d.jpg\" border=\"3\" width=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/4fb67de8db34ace6a49daee7e876f281.jpg?resize=433%2C650\" alt=\"Daley Ranch\" height=\"650\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The weather looked questionable\u00a0at the trailhead, but we opted to head out.\u00a0\u00a0 We took the right out of the parking lot onto the Creek Crossing trail and then out to the Sage trail for the typical (and\u00a0substantial)\u00a0starting climb.\u00a0 I was thoroughly impressed with both of them on the climb as they never stopped due to being tired. (They did dab a couple of times, but they did far better than\u00a0I did when I first came out\u00a0here some years back)\u00a0 Due to the moisture we opted to skip the Coyote Run and Rattlesnake singletracks and stay on the fireroads.\u00a0\u00a0 It worked out well as the boys really enjoyed catching bits of air off the rocks in the fireroad on the way down to the meadow.\u00a0 We\u00a0stopped\u00a0at the first good view\u00a0of the meadow and we could hear a pack of coyotes yipping it up below.\u00a0 Will was even keen enough to spot them before they headed\u00a0off into the trees.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" imagescaler=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/92bf930b86a0053a68bba83c9038c068.jpg\" border=\"3\" width=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/96a707cb4a2d213372e6deccde86d574.jpg?resize=650%2C433\" alt=\"Jake Air\" height=\"433\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once down in the meadow we did the Jack Meadow loop starting up the east side.\u00a0\u00a0 We took a break at a little kicker rock so the boys could get some &#8220;mini-air&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" imagescaler=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/2c294267ba9dae6fdb0f2db7daa62819.jpg\" border=\"3\" width=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7e198b2874c51f8bcd2bcb43355f2196.jpg?resize=650%2C433\" alt=\"Will Air\" height=\"433\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Once we reached the north end of the meadow and headed down\u00a0the west side it was mostly a gradual downhill affair from there.\u00a0\u00a0 I reminded them that they had a big ring on thier\u00a0bike and it was game on after that.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 With my gearing at 32:18, I had to put on some serious cadence to beat them to the Ranch House.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The damp and cool air kept us from lingering long during our\u00a0break at the Ranch House.\u00a0\u00a0 They were trying to talk me into going to Wings and Things after the ride so I made a deal with them.\u00a0\u00a0 If we took the East Ridge trail back instead of &#8220;wimping out&#8221; on the road I would take them.\u00a0\u00a0 (I was going to take them anyway, but they did not need to know that.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The thing about the East Ridge trail is that there is one really nasty steep section and I wanted them to get a taste of some hike-a-biking.\u00a0\u00a0 I really talked up &#8220;The Wall&#8221;
