Creek Mesa &#8211; Utah Day 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day two of the quick Utah weekender started off by waking up on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/UT-LittleCreekMesa.htm\">Little Creek Mesa<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Both Bill and I are Scotch and Bourbon fans so we both brought some offering from our collections to share around the campfire.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I was clearly too enthusiastic with the barrel aged goodness that night and I found myself\u00a0having a rough go of getting started in the morning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Luckily it was a short commute to the trailhead \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-04\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love this mesa, the slick rock, the vistas, single track, it just sooooo good.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large happened.\u00a0\u00a0 The two Santa Cruz riders in the group took the pictures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More slick rock awesomeness.\u00a0\u00a0 While on our way back to camp we saw a few lines of cairns heading off in directions we had not been before.\u00a0\u00a0 We decided then and there we would come back and check that out tomorrow vice dealing with additional logistics of going someplace else and bringing down camp.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-24.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2555\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-24.jpg?resize=608%2C911\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-22APR17-24\" width=\"608\" height=\"911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the main ride for the day, we did some poking around at other spots on the mesa.\u00a0\u00a0 We came across this \u201cWaterglyph\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 According to my readings, these were made by the Anasazi inhabitants in the timeframe\u00a0of 900-1200AD.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 While most like they have nothing to do with water, there are some interesting theories on their use.\u00a0 Solstice markers, prayer shrines and bird of prey snares were just some of the more intriguing theories.\u00a0\u00a0There seems to be plenty of debate among the theories.\u00a0\u00a0 You can find some the resources used at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.waterglyphs.org\/text_only.htm\">Waterglyphs.org<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/dixierockart.webs.com\/Technical%20Presentations\/WaterglyphsPaper%20-%20Boma,%20Kat%20%20&amp;%20Feather%20-%20April%202015.pdf\">Dixie Rock Art<\/a>.\u00a0 I think next time I head out here I\u2019m\u00a0going chase down an archeology\/rock art enthusiast with a\u00a0MTB problem or a Mountainbiker with a archeology\/rock art problem to show us around.<\/p>\n<p><a
