Maps will be posted at kiosks.<span class=\"text_exposed_hide\">\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<p>On the Del Mar Mesa map, as shown below, trails opened by the Council action are shown in black and white. Trails shown in black and red are NOT open due to private property and\/or the need for Coastal Commission approval. Maps will be updated once further clearances are obtained.<\/p>\n<p>For Carmel Mountain, all trails appear the same on the map and all are open.<\/p>\n<p>The Council action also included biological habitat restoration on a number of areas previously used for recreational activities. Ranger staff have installed brush, signs, and fences at the access points to these locations. Please respect these access controls along with the ones installed at the Coastal Zone boundary and report any inappropriate behavior to Park Ranger staff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Tunnels-AUG15-Map.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2125\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/fd0d5fa86d185020ba61c3f0370e2f4b.jpg?resize=840%2C651\" alt=\"Tunnels-AUG15-Map\" width=\"840\" height=\"651\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now a bit of opinion from me:<\/strong>\u00a0 While this\u00a0progress is the culmination of a lot of work by a\u00a0wide array of folks working\u00a0quite diligently it also shows off some of the bureaucratic buffoonery that is all to common when multiple agencies have to work together.\u00a0\u00a0It better than it was but this trail plan is a setup to foster undesired behaviors.\u00a0\u00a0 Where are the loops?\u00a0\u00a0 Tunnel 4 is the only legal ingress\/egress into the tunnels and then you can only go out and back on the Deer Canyon Trail.\u00a0\u00a0 The California Department of <del>Fencing<\/del> Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is the primary players who would not allow for a trail to create a loop to get back from the eastern end of the Deer Canyon trail back to the Eucalyptus Grove.\u00a0\u00a0 This failure to manage the flow of trails users will most likely\u00a0lead to undesired effects such as trail users figuring out their own\u00a0way to\u00a0create a\u00a0loop with those trails which will further challenge the management of this area.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You can bet that\u00a0when a group of folks do this they will be demonized by the very folks who help create the problem in the first place.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You know people, particularly trail users, are fairly predictable.\u00a0\u00a0In many respects people are much more predictable that the array of critters these intelligent conservationist are trying to protect.\u00a0 You would think they would have figured this stuff out by now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Now my recommendation:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Like the city is asking, PLEASE\u00a0do not go around any barriers, remove any of the brush, debris or tamper with the \u201caccess controls\u201d\u00a0 <em>(What do that have squirrels with lasers\u00a0attached to their head?)<\/em> \u00a0that has been put up\u00a0to close off the existing trails that are not going to be part of this trails system on the mesa.\u00a0\u00a0 I believe this would be\u00a0exactly what some of the ANTI-BIKE ANTI-ACCESS folks\/agencies would love to see happen.\u00a0 <strong>DON\u2019T TAKE THE BAIT!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ll be updating <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150905092547\/http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/LosPenDelMar.htm\">my page on this trail system<\/a> in the coming weeks<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<!-- Begin Yuzo --><div class='yuzo_related_post style-1'  data-version='5.12.81'><!-- without result --><div class='yuzo_clearfixed yuzo__title yuzo__title'><h3>More Stuff Like This<\/h3><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t  <div class=\"relatedthumb \" style=\"width:165px;float:left;overflow:hidden;\">  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=2905\"  >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <div class=\"yuzo-img-wrap \" style=\"width: 165px;height:130px;\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"yuzo-img\" style=\"background:url('http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BW-MBBLogo.gif') 50% 50% no-repeat;width: 165px;height:130px;margin-bottom: 5px;background-size: cover;
