{"id":1304,"date":"2015-06-01T19:22:20","date_gmt":"2015-06-02T03:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=1304"},"modified":"2018-09-09T19:25:40","modified_gmt":"2018-09-10T03:25:40","slug":"boden-canyon-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=1304","title":{"rendered":"Boden Canyon Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is some news you can use concerning the Boden Canyon portion of\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/OroscoBoden.htm\">Orosco \u2013 Boden Loop<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 It turns out the California Department of Fish an Wildlife (CDFW) owns\u00a0a couple of parcels of land in the canyon\u00a0and have it designated as an ecological preserve.\u00a0 The agency\u2019s default policy is that mountain biking is not allowed on\u00a0ecological reserves.\u00a0\u00a0 I was made aware of this by CDFW after publishing the route.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I made them aware\u00a0of the lack of signage concerning trail use restrictions.\u00a0\u00a0 It is my understanding that the signage has probably already been corrected.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have updated my page, map and GPS files to reflect the CDFW parcels.\u00a0 Unfortunately,\u00a0the CDFW trail use restrictions makes it impossible to\u00a0legally loop together the Lower Santa Ysabel Truck Trail and Orosco Ridge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/BodenOrosco-29APR15-18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1984\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/45eecd8518752e47cbb9f324d1beb564.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"BodenOrosco-29APR15-18\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can tell from the pictures, the canyon is beautiful and is well worth a hike\u00a0through.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The only other way you can go legally enjoy this canyon is\u00a0during hunting season.\u00a0 During the upland bird hunting seasons you\u00a0are more than welcome to trounce around wherever you like in the ecological reserve\u00a0and\u00a0blast the heads off\u00a0those birds with a shotgun.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m having a tough time trying to make sense of how the\u00a0CDFW can view killing birds as a more acceptable use for this land\u00a0than allowing mountain bikers and equestrians to pass through the canyon on the old road.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m going to leave my commentary at\u00a0that for now.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If I get some reasonable justifications for\u00a0the policy in the future, I\u2019ll provide an update.\u00a0 Until then beware that you can\u2019t legally do the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/OroscoBoden.htm\">Orosco-Boden Loop<\/a> on a mountainbike or horse.<\/p>\n<!-- Begin Yuzo --><div class='yuzo_related_post style-1'  data-version='5.12.81'><!-- without result --><div class='yuzo_clearfixed yuzo__title yuzo__title'><h3>More Stuff Like This<\/h3><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t  <div class=\"relatedthumb \" style=\"width:165px;float:left;overflow:hidden;\">  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=162\"  >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  <div class=\"yuzo-img-wrap \" style=\"width: 165px;height:130px;\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"yuzo-img\" style=\"background:url('http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/84640b6dc6ae22d2061e1910d836e7f1.jpg') 50% 50% no-repeat;width: 165px;height:130px;margin-bottom: 5px;background-size: cover;
