Weekend &#8211; Little Creek Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our last day\u00a0of the Utah weekend found us rolling out of the hotel at a pretty descent time and headed out to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/UT-LittleCreekMesa.htm\">Little Creek Mesa<\/a>\u00a0with a pit-stop\u00a0at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RiverRockRoasters\">River Rock Roasters <\/a>\u00a0for some caffeine and\u00a0sandwiches\u00a0for a mesa-top lunch.\u00a0 I have ridden Little Creek\u00a0several times before\u00a0and this place is just great.\u00a0 It has pretty much everything I want in a trail.\u00a0 There\u00a0is plenty \u00a0flowing singletrack with technical goodies.\u00a0 Huge vistas that start right at your feet\u00a0, rock slabs to play on with features big and small,\u00a0and nature\u2019s beauty all around you.\u00a0 It also has a feel of being far and away and the route finding you have to do (even with the aid of a GPS) offers a kind of mental engagement that I love in a trail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2030\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/5c97157b8c6eecdfc457e1b0169c6e9a.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-07\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We started out on the main loop and soon found ourselves playing on rock slabs\u00a0with Zion National Park in the background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2032\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/338e0e33e5a96fe0c0f4ae6e5598f04b.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-11\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With all of the rain over the last handful of days there was plenty\u00a0of water pooled up in the depressions in the rocks.\u00a0 The big rock slabs gave way to forested single track that was just awesome with the fresh scent of moisture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2033\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/0f2f0c40cc76e6417cd99c7325db859d.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-21\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was not expecting to see snow on the mountains west of St George.\u00a0\u00a0I just don\u2019t see how the views from this mesa could ever\u00a0get old.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-28.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2035\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hot Tub\u201d along the western rim of Little Creek Mesa.\u00a0 This was one helluva spot for snacks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-24.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The main loop took out to the fork for the North Point loops.\u00a0There are some\u00a0sweet bits of single track\u00a0goodness as you head out to the North\u00a0Point\u00a0with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/Utah-Gooseberry2006.htm\">Gooseberry Mesa<\/a> typically in the background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-36.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2027\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/e4df571e9a0f61744a56e46bf37588b2.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-36\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had ridden this thing a couple of times before but failed to notice the gap this slab went across until this trip.\u00a0 I guess I was too focused on where I was going.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-40.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2028\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/caeb028032f9131e7f5a49a3b472f7c9.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-40\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The same gap after it opens up a bit.\u00a0\u00a0 What an amazingly gorgeous day!\u00a0\u00a0 Once back out to the main mesa\u00a0 we enjoyed a bit of route finding as there seemed to be cairns here, there and sometimes seemingly no where.\u00a0 You could play out here all day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-42.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2029\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/bf86bd81dfd019f28127220b6e33713e.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"UT-LittleCreekMesa-10MAY15-42\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOur playing around eventually took us to\u00a0\u201cThe Waterfall\u201d, one of the iconic features of the mesa.\u00a0 This was my first time doing the waterfall with actual water around.\u00a0 I dug how the water showed the line I took.
