Bellingham WA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Sunday I went up to Bellingham WA to check out Galbraith Mountain as I had heard it had the goods.\u00a0 The folks who gave me that\u00a0411 were right on the money.\u00a0 This place\u00a0RULES plan and simply.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I got in a week&#8217;s worth of stoke in a single day.\u00a0 This was a good thing as work this past week has been a real beater that consumed all of my physical and mental energy.\u00a0\u00a0 Luckily the tidal wave of work had moved on by this\u00a0past Saturday evening.\u00a0 This Sunday I found myself once again heading north to enjoy Galbraith\u00a0Mountain once again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SEA09\/normal_Gabraith-19APR09-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-01.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The place is sorta broken up into two areas, the Lakeview Drive side and the Galbraith Lane side.\u00a0 There are miles and miles of\u00a0good trails all over the place here with most of\u00a0the XC oriented stuff on the Lakeview Side and the DH\/Freeride stuff over on the Galbraith\u00a0Lane side.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-08.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The weather on both days turned out to be killer but both started somewhat cloudy and progressively got better.\u00a0\u00a0 Once you get inside the dense forest it really does not matter wither the sun is out or not as\u00a0the forest canopy renders\u00a0the light in some spots just a few\u00a0levels\u00a0dusk.\u00a0\u00a0 Nothing but yellow or clear lenses if you are going to ride here.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-04.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first day out here I started on the Lakeview side and rode a series of trails over to the Galbraith side.\u00a0 One fun trail was call Bob&#8217;s Cedar Dust as there are a ton of skinnies of various difficulties to dare you into trying them.\u00a0 You see so much of this stuff you just have to give it a try.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-18.jpg?resize=695%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"695\" height=\"899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you choose to, you can spent most of your climbing on forest roads and then catch a series of singletracks back down the mountain.\u00a0 Getting to the top of Galbraith is where the real fun starts.\u00a0 There are several north-shore style trails coming off the top that will get your fix on if you are into that kind of thing.\u00a0 Most of the riders I met\u00a0heading up to the top where on beefy downhill and freeride rigs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-15.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rewards for your efforts are some really killer black diamond level trails that will peg your stoke meter or scare the crap out of you.\u00a0\u00a0 There is a good chance that both may happen at the same time.\u00a0\u00a0 The first day out here I hooked up with a couple of local young guys.\u00a0 They were too old to be &#8220;groms&#8221; but they did talk about calling there mom to come pick them up near the end of the day.\u00a0 I&#8217;m guessing somewhere around\u00a016-18.\u00a0\u00a0 I bring it up because\u00a0following these\u00a0fearless young\u00a0bucks was feeding my mojo\u00a0and I started hitting stuff I would normally balk at or stop and think about first.\u00a0\u00a0Small to medium\u00a0gaps, tabletops, kickers\u00a0and 4 foot drops where just happening.\u00a0\u00a0Now I was not transformed into some hucker that day, but a new level of comfort was obtained on this type of terrain.\u00a0\u00a0 Riding with these folks who were more than half my age certainly made me feel half my age.\u00a0\u00a0 Mountain Biking is just freaking great!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-14.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the most killer trails out here that I rode was Evolution.\u00a0 It has an incredible mix of ladders, berms, gaps, log rides and other BC inspired stuff that just rocks!\u00a0\u00a0 The Korn song of that same name popped into my head and it has been stuck there ever since.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-19APR09-19.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty sure you can not get all of the trails bagged in a single day out here.\u00a0 It would take at least three\u00a0humps to the top of Galbraith to get in the really cool stuff near\u00a0the top.\u00a0 The last section to the top gets steep and it will put some hurting on you.\u00a0 Granny and me had it going on during both of my visits here.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/Gabraith-26APR09-01.jpg?resize=695%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"695\" height=\"899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As far as what trails to hit, the general consensus on the All-Mountain scene are: Evolution,\u00a0Mullet, Cheech and Chong&#8217;s Wild Ride, Not Shawns, Meth Lab, Scorpion and SST are &#8220;Da Bomb&#8221;.\u00a0 I\u00a0rode all of those and then some with the exception of SST.\u00a0\u00a0 On the cross country scene, the Whoopsie Woodle trail way in the Southwest back 40 of Galbraith is pretty darn cool.\u00a0\u00a0 Have no idea what I&#8217;m talking about?\u00a0\u00a0 Well when you roll into Bellingham swing by one of the shops (I hit up <a href=\"http:\/\/fanatikbike.com\/\">Fantik<\/a>) and pick up a map printed on waterproof paper.\u00a0 They were $8 and they are really nice and the profits help out the local advocacy group.<\/p>\n<p>Bellingham is also a really cool town with an awesome vibe.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbaybrewery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro<\/a> is not to be missed for post ride goodness.\u00a0\u00a0 Thier IPA is killer and the Rueben sandwich is to die for.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Killer\u00a0trails, Great Brews and Yummy Food\u00a0 &#8212;
