{"id":350,"date":"2009-04-12T18:11:21","date_gmt":"2009-04-13T02:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=350"},"modified":"2009-04-12T19:17:05","modified_gmt":"2009-04-13T03:17:05","slug":"anacortes-singletrack-goodness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=350","title":{"rendered":"A romp through Anacortes singletrack goodness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, I ventured north of Seattle to the town of Anacortes, where tales of miles single track goodness seemed to abound.\u00a0\u00a0 My first order of business upon rolling into the sound-side town of Anacortes was to pickup a set of maps from a local bike shop.\u00a0\u00a0For $10 I got three great maps of the Anacortes Community Forest Lands. That\u00a0was all I needed to get to the trailhead at Cranberry Lake.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SEA09\/normal_WA09-CranberryLake-11APR09-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/212bda5e1166f57e5b082b58c7557159.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" weather forecast gave a 50% chance of showers with the temps in the low 50s.\u00a0\u00a0 It certainly looked like I was going to get wet today.\u00a0\u00a0 A few days ago someone said something interesting that stuck in my head.\u00a0 &#8220;There is no bad weather, only bad gear.&#8221;\u00a0 With that in my head, I packed up my gear and hit the trail.\u00a0 Right from the trailhead I was on some cool single tracks that were combinations of loamy buff with some rocks and roots here and there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SEA09\/normal_WA09-CranberryLake-11APR09-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/512fd8ad146c172a75fa416c895fba29.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" an evergreen forest is just awesome.\u00a0\u00a0 Believe it or not these are multi-use trails.\u00a0 Yes these twisty and flowing singletracks are open to hikers, equestrians and bicycles.\u00a0\u00a0 These are community trails and most of them are within the city limits of Anacortes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The land managers and agencies of\u00a0San Diego County could learn a lot from this place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SEA09\/normal_WA09-CranberryLake-11APR09-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/c08ec476e15229d68bfbe824c58b64d2.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Did I mention these trails rule?\u00a0\u00a0 The Anacortes Community Forest Lands has about 50 miles of interconnected trails with over 41 miles of those trails being single tracks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SEA09\/normal_WA09-CranberryLake-11APR09-20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" went on the weather turned for the better and the sun even popped out.\u00a0\u00a0I found myself openly giggling while I cruised and twisted through the forest.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0On several occasions I could not help but to stop,\u00a0grab a\u00a0spot on a log and just\u00a0take it all in.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I am one lucky bastard to get to ride stuff like this on a business trip.
