{"id":314,"date":"2009-03-19T20:49:39","date_gmt":"2009-03-20T04:49:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=314"},"modified":"2009-03-19T20:49:39","modified_gmt":"2009-03-20T04:49:39","slug":"a-quick-spin-at-spring-canyon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=314","title":{"rendered":"A quick spin at Spring Canyon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, I decided to hit up the SDMBA advocacy meeting.\u00a0 The meeting did not start until 7pm and since I work in San Diego and live in North County what to with all that time between work and the meeting.\u00a0 Ah yes, the ole standby&#8230;.go for a ride.\u00a0\u00a0 The destination was Spring Canyon just north of the 52.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This canyon is eventually going to be annexed into Mission Trails and link\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/SycamoreCanyon.htm\">Sycamore Canyon\/Goodan Ranch<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/MTRP.htm\">Mission Trails<\/a>\u00a0but right now it is well &#8220;social&#8221; in nature.\u00a0 These trails have\u00a0been for decades and it is such a poorly guarded secret that most of the public has no idea it is not a fully endorsed trail system.\u00a0\u00a0 More often than not people assume it is part of Mission Trails Regional Park.\u00a0 The same folks also think these are by\u00a0far the best trails &#8220;in&#8221; Mission Trails.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SpringOakCanyon\/normal_SpringOak-18MAR09-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/9894b66b52b7fe0c21bb8b111273df49.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/9894b66b52b7fe0c21bb8b111273df49.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Okay enough with the history and issues, this is nice place to ride on real &#8220;Preserve Quality&#8221; trails, aka singletrack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SpringOakCanyon\/normal_SpringOak-18MAR09-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/ac97a52760b7253f5e149c5d7cb26b6d.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/ac97a52760b7253f5e149c5d7cb26b6d.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weather was pretty darn great and the greenery and the flowers blooming was just awesome.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SpringOakCanyon\/normal_SpringOak-18MAR09-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/2de1a95a20773a41303a4523b20fffde.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/2de1a95a20773a41303a4523b20fffde.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I decided to take the single speed out today, and while it is generally a good choice for out here, there was one hill that put a beat down on me for a bit.\u00a0 It is all good, as I need the beat down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SpringOakCanyon\/normal_SpringOak-18MAR09-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/8405b1f9722fe225041931e30ddecffe.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"899\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/8405b1f9722fe225041931e30ddecffe.jpg?resize=599%2C899\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The return trip back to the trailhead was an all gradually downhill affair that was a bunch of swooping fun.\u00a0 There was enough turns that I only spun out on the singlespeed in a few sections.\u00a0 I&#8217;m no racer so it was just set back and enjoy the cruise through those sections.\u00a0 Good stuff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While I could not stay for the entire <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdmba.com\">SDMBA<\/a> meeting (Had to pick Will up from Hockey practice) it was a good meeting with lots of exciting things brewing in SD County.\u00a0 We have multiple cities interesting in MTB Skills Progression Parks, corporate sponsors getting more involved, and the IMBA trail crew coming out this coming weekend.\u00a0 Lots more stuff as well so stay tuned to tby signing up for the thier free <a href=\"http:\/\/sdmba.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=67\">Trailnews letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On a more painful sidenote,\u00a0after the meeting, I became aware that I have gotten into some Poison Oak on a &#8220;scouting expedition&#8221;
