{"id":269,"date":"2009-02-02T19:09:25","date_gmt":"2009-02-03T03:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=269"},"modified":"2009-02-02T19:16:32","modified_gmt":"2009-02-03T03:16:32","slug":"sdmba-volunteer-appreciation-gala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/?p=269","title":{"rendered":"SDMBA Volunteer Appreciation Gala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdmba.com\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Mountain Bike Association<\/a> had it&#8217;s annual Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Visitor&#8217;s Center of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtrp.org\" target=\"_blank\">Mission Trails Regional Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event started off with an afternoon ride through the park.\u00a0\u00a0 A sizable crowd showed up for the pre-festivities ride that included three different routes for\u00a0various skills levels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SDMBA-Events\/VAG-2009\/normal_SDMBA-VAG-31JAN09-01.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/6cec75251ba3246a631cc1c443c578ec.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/6cec75251ba3246a631cc1c443c578ec.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I ended with the group that I believe should have been called &#8220;Should have known better group&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SDMBA-Events\/VAG-2009\/normal_SDMBA-VAG-31JAN09-03.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/5dcd306b5826005a691f3809a39fb7a9.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/5dcd306b5826005a691f3809a39fb7a9.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We decided to climb Jackson to Suycutt Wash and then up to the saddle between North and South Fortuna Mountain.\u00a0\u00a0There is some steep freaking fireroads on this route.\u00a0 Somewhere near the top of the saddle, I remembered why I don&#8217;t ride much here.\u00a0\u00a0 Freaking fireroads everywhere trying to be passed off to the public as trails.\u00a0\u00a0Just because you designate something a\u00a0trail does not make it a\u00a0trail.\u00a0 I did chuckle pretty hard later in the day when someone said this place should be called\u00a0 &#8220;Missing Trails Regional Park&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 The rumor\/good news is that the management is starting to see the light on sustainable multiuse singletracks.\u00a0\u00a0 Okay rant aside,\u00a0 after making it to the saddle we hung a right and climbed up to the peak of South Fortuna Mountain were we got in some cool views of downtown, Point Loma and the Coronado Islands.\u00a0 From here we got in some mighty zippy descending that included some hike-a-biking down a portion of &#8220;The Steps&#8221; trails\u00a0\u00a0 Before long we were back to Jackson Drive and dumped a lot of hard earned elevation down the gravely fireroad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SDMBA-Events\/VAG-2009\/normal_SDMBA-VAG-31JAN09-10.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/ac70bede8b4508f4088590b21e58e639.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/ac70bede8b4508f4088590b21e58e639.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back\u00a0at the visitor&#8217;s center,\u00a0I along with a bunch of\u00a0trails rats and dirt divas\u00a0enjoyed a good time hanging, grubbing\u00a0and conversating with each other.\u00a0 Some of these folks\u00a0I only see during trailwork events.\u00a0\u00a0 It was certainly a good time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SDMBA-Events\/VAG-2009\/normal_SDMBA-VAG-31JAN09-08.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/d5dc6b2f3d4be9b0a227ae8cb35feef1.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/d5dc6b2f3d4be9b0a227ae8cb35feef1.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some people looked to be planning for world-wide singletrack domination.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SDMBA-Events\/VAG-2009\/normal_SDMBA-VAG-31JAN09-08.JPG\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mtbbill.com\/cpg\/albums\/SDMBA-Events\/VAG-2009\/normal_SDMBA-VAG-31JAN09-07.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7f6d09ca489285d8bded3a6a0e9d18e1.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" imagescaler=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/7f6d09ca489285d8bded3a6a0e9d18e1.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a pretty lively crowd and there was a rumor that a gang sign or two might have been thrown around.\u00a0(I think I caught the highly secretive &#8220;Sparticus&#8221;
