return to Golden Eagle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend I got up at O-damn early and I traveled up to the Los Angeles area to catch up with an old friend.\u00a0 What better way to catch up on things than during a bike ride.\u00a0\u00a0After swinging by his place we continued northward to spend some time on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/GoldenEagle.htm\">Golden Eagle Trail<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0What a nice chunk of trail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GoldenEagle-15MAR154-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1867\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/9980671ed0a332b51c511332629f9f49.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"GoldenEagle-15MAR154-01\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lower portion of the trail was scorched by a wildfire in the last couple of years but the recovery process is well underway.\u00a0The climb was a good punch to the cardio system.\u00a0 The two McDonalds sausage biscuits that I had just recently polished off for breakfast and were now sitting like a couple of bricks in my gut also helped with the challenge.\u00a0 I should know better by now, clearly I\u2019m a slow learner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GoldenEagle-15MAR154-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1868\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/f1ce305e41cf83fc22a7d5f3f412679c.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"GoldenEagle-15MAR154-06\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sausage sweats aside, once we\u00a0got a little further up on Liebre Mountain\u00a0we cleared the burn area and things got back to how I remembered them.\u00a0\u00a0(Both for my stomach and the trail!)\u00a0There are some seriously nice ribbons on dirt on this mountain with incredible flow across both grassy hillsides and through forests of oak trees.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/20150315_114721.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1873\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/2b76c2c8413ee15b44541e9891f7e4f5.jpg?resize=840%2C472\" alt=\"20150315_114721\" width=\"840\" height=\"472\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now Bill and I have done many a road trip together over the years and somewhere along the way, Bill got me sucked into the pursuit of\u00a0tasty bourbons and scotch.\u00a0 So in addition to enjoying some awesome single track on the mountain we both brought some spirit samples from the home cabinets to share.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure bourdon taste better outdoors and adds a little something to the flavor of a Clif Bar <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-smiley\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png?w=840\" alt=\":-)\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GoldenEagle-15MAR154-10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1866\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/1e83788e7f70b96958e24bee0c235760.jpg?resize=607%2C911\" alt=\"GoldenEagle-15MAR154-10\" width=\"607\" height=\"911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After tooling around on\u00a0the Liebre Mountain ridgelines the descent down the Golden Eagle trail was quite a rip.\u00a0\u00a0It was the awesome kind of situation where all your sensory systems are fully engaged to help produce the required muscle\/body action\u00a0and\u00a0your brain seems to\u00a0shift from conscious \u00a0controlling to supervising.\u00a0 That\u00a0wonderful state of being fully in the moment.\u00a0 While I did not notice it on the climb,\u00a0 the fire damage near the bottom had made the usable trail\u2019s usable\u00a0tread even narrower than normal in spots which required some high speed precision in spots.\u00a0\u00a0It was a great day to be on a bike.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll be tweaking the
