trail goodness at Black Mountain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent a couple of afternoons this past week getting reacquainted with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150905063740\/http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/BlackMountainRB.htm\">Black Mountain<\/a> in near Rancho Bernardo.\u00a0 The Lilac Canyon trail has recently been rerouted and it is way much for the better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/20150303_135831.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1842\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/0079a4d10869ff0f4da016dafe22ebf5.jpg?resize=840%2C472\" alt=\"20150303_135831\" width=\"840\" height=\"472\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The trail still starts from the Miner\u2019s Ridge Loop trailhead but now instead of steeply descending down to Carmel Valley Road it down contours along the north slope of Black Mountain around to the glider port.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/20150303_155809.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1838\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/57b0b40564a9beca7695dae74462479a.jpg?resize=512%2C911\" alt=\"20150303_155809\" width=\"512\" height=\"911\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shortly before the trail reaches the glider port a single track forks off to the north and pass under Carmel Valley Road.\u00a0 This is another nice section of singletrack that works its way around to the north side of the\u00a0Black Mountain Ranch Park (baseball fields).\u00a0\u00a0 This provides a direct connection to the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150905063740\/http:\/\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/SantaLuzLoop.htm\">Santa Luz\/Larsardi Creek Loop<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 This is a really nice trail connection that I\u2019m stoked about.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ll be updating my site soon with new data on the trail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/20150303_150016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1839\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/370991d53cacf332e9ea4027d1dbbea9.jpg?resize=840%2C472\" alt=\"20150303_150016\" width=\"840\" height=\"472\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had kinda lost my appreciation for just how much climbing there is at Black Mountain.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first ride out here I did about 17 miles and 2,500 miles and on the second ride I did 16.75 miles and 3,000 feet of climbing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_6265a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1844\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/imagescaler\/700cf07385dcc3383326d2d193d33eb8.jpg?resize=840%2C560\" alt=\"IMG_6265a\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It seems mighty early for the rattlers to be out and about already but this fellow above was the third rattler I have seen this year.\u00a0\u00a0 I came around a turn and I was at that distance where I had to decide wither\u00a0to bunny hop the snake or throw out the anchor.\u00a0\u00a0 I chose to throw out the anchor and ended up pulling off a totally awesome nose wheelie stop that I\u2019m positive I could not pull off again if I tried.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mountainbikebill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/20150303_141609.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1840\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Miner\u2019s Ridge Loop is in fantastic shape right now with the rain we had the previous week.\u00a0\u00a0 If you have not been out here in a while you
