<\/p>\nSo I was tube locked for most of the day on Wednesday, but\u00a0an appointment near Balboa Park\u00a0gave me about an hour and half to squeeze in a\u00a0quick\u00a0ride in Florida Canyon.\u00a0\u00a0 Florida Canyon\u00a0is part of Balboa Park and the canyon has trails on\u00a0both sides of\u00a0Florida Drive which goes\u00a0down the middle of the\u00a0canyon.\u00a0 \u00a0I have only ridden here once before about 13 years ago.\u00a0\u00a0Besides that there is not much mileage out here I had forgotten\u00a0my other aversion to this place.\u00a0 I was\u00a0obvisously overdue for a refresher.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

While this place is very short on miles, the fact that it is bascally in downtown gives it huge bonus points.\u00a0\u00a0 The place is pretty and has enough ups, downs and turns to keep a beginner excited.<\/p>\n

Most of the trails are about sidewalk wide and while being solidly in the none technical category they do have some character here and there.\u00a0 These trails\u00a0are\u00a0much better than the homogenized decomposed granite sidewalks that are so prevalent among most of the city and county created pathways\/roads that they try to pass off as “trails”.<\/p>\n

There are some more narrower singletracks here and there.\u00a0 The picture above is of one of the trails on the east side of the canyon.\u00a0\u00a0 Now I am routinely\u00a0prone to taking the trail less traveled to try and figure out an area’s trail system and today was one of those days.\u00a0\u00a0 While over on the east side of the canyon just south of Morley Field (highlighted in yellow below) I spotted a few exceptionally narrow looking trails that seemed to not see much action so I flicked the handlebars and headed off down the second one I came across.\u00a0\u00a0 Turns out I was quite wrong about the whole not seeing much action assessment.\u00a0 Less than 40 feet down the trail I hear somebody coughing off in the bushes in a manner that seems like they\u00a0are trying to get someones attention.\u00a0\u00a0I thought it wierd but kept on rolling.\u00a0 \u00a0Around the next corner I\u00a0see\u00a0some things that well (a) Ought to happen behind closed doors (b)\u00a0Joe Public should not have to see in a public park \u00a0(c)\u00a0\u00a0Just can’t be unseen!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Everybody (Straight, Gay, Trannies, Furries, etc…)\u00a0 has to get their freak on but come on!\u00a0 I should have to type in some\u00a0keystrokes\u00a0like\u00a0C: <INSERT> ###\u00a0into my computer to see some shit like that on an idle Wednesday afternoon.\u00a0 I was certainly motivated\u00a0 get out of this section of “social ” trails at this point\u00a0so I give some extra\u00a0gusto to the pedals.\u00a0\u00a0 These little trails seemed more\u00a0 like a maze and this point and two\u00a0turns later\u00a0I encounter a very\u00a0stylishly dressed man in surprising uncomfortable looking\u00a0shoes strolling along this little trail towards me.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(Don’t ask me why I noticed the shoes,\u00a0 I just did okay.\u00a0\u00a0 I have been paying more attention to peoples shoes ever since I saw Shawshank Redemption.\u00a0 We should all be slightly suspicious of people wearing inappropriate shoes.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was a\u00a0cordial fellow who wanted to chat while I figured out how to get around him with the\u00a0minium\u00a0of greetings exchanged.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The guy seemed to pick up on the fact that Homee don’t play that\u00a0pretty quickly and I was soon on my way again.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A handful of seconds\u00a0later\u00a0I popped back onto the main trail to notice another well dressed fellow reading a book while sitting on a log seat and another guy just sort of standing around.\u00a0\u00a0 Weird!<\/p>\n

I then\u00a0remembered why I had not been back over here in over a decade. Morley Field is a\u00a0“Cruising” spot for gay guys looking to hook up for casual sex in the bushes.\u00a0\u00a0 To each his own but the Public Service Announcement for this trail system is<\/p>\n
Once I was back the main trail and checking out the rest of the trails I could not help but chuckle as dinner plans for the evening had already been made with my girlfriend.<\/p>\n
